For those of us who pay tax, there can be little more infuriating than those that take unlimited time off work and use sickness benefits to pay their way while actually living a carefree life without the sickness issues they claim to have. These benefits are paid for out of our tax money yet we cannot afford to take time off work. It takes a certain type of individual to be able to fleece the system out of money and not bat an eyelid! For this reason, the DSS are so sick of people taking advantage of a system set up to help the truly needy that they enlist the help of covert surveillance to catch out those that abuse the facility.

This is particularly useful for those that use long term sickness as a way out of working. Back pain is often used as an excuse to go on sickness benefit as a large proportion of the population have it and it can be a difficult ailment to prove or disprove in it’s severity. So, doctors notes and sick notes are limited in what they can claim. Each persons pain threshold is different and what some people can live with, others would be incapacitated by. A doctor cannot determine how bad your pain is, he can only judge by what you tell him. Therefore, those that want to live on sickness benefits can easily inflate their problems with not worries of a doctor proving otherwise.

Covert surveillance experts will be used to track the individual and their activities. If they are seen to be engaging in moves and actions they claim are beyond them, then photographic evidence will be taken and sent back to the DSS. Activities such as Sunday football matches or putting the bins out, walking without the aid of a previously thought neccessary stick and partaking in sporting activities will all be noted. The idea is that if a claimant is fit for these activities then they are fit for work. If they choose not to work they should go down the route of jobseekers allowance which is signficantly less than incapacity or disability benefits, which of course they don’t want to do as they enjoy the income and the benefits of all that free time.

But watch out! Claimants of these benefits that falsify their information will be caught out by covert surveillance and not only will their benefits be stopped but they will be prosecuted leading to a withdrawal of benefits and a criminal record for fraud!
